The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP)’s Department of Organization director Lee Wen-chung (李文忠) at the weekend announced he will be running for the Nantou County commissioner post, becoming the first DPP member to officially announce his candidacy for the position.
Lee said at a press conference that he is to take part in the seven-in-one elections next year to win the post. He was accompanied by his wife Chen De-yu (陳德愉) and Nantou County councilors Liao Cheh-chene (廖志城), Chen Chao-yu (陳昭煜) and Hsu A-kan (許阿甘).
Lee tendered his resignation from his current party post to show his determination to win the election.
In 2009, Lee was defeated in the election for the position by then-Nantou county commissioner Lee Chao-ching (李朝卿) by a close margin.
Lee Chao-ching, of the Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT), was suspended from the post after being charged with taking bribes.
