A Taiwanese woman studying music in Paris has created a sensation in Taiwan after she launched a project to kiss 100 men in the City of Lights.
Yang Ya-ching (楊雅晴), 27, came up with the idea of kissing 100 strangers three years ago, but did not act until this summer vacation, local media reported yesterday.
Yang thought that two years of studies could bring her a degree, but she wanted to do something that could give her a lasting memory of Paris.
So during this summer vacation, she kicked off the Kiss 100 Men in Paris Project, hitting the road with a photographer to record the kisses, media reported.
On July 13, she succeeded in soliciting a kiss from the first man, a worker installing an outdoor advertisement board. After hearing her explanation, the man granted her wish and the kiss was like “an autumn leaf falling into my pocket by accident,” she wrote on her blog.
Since then, Yang has kissed 54 men across Paris, including a street sweeper, a model and a foreign tourist.
Kiss No. 3 came from a French man who teaches in Africa. He liked her and invited her to visit him in Africa.
The man who gave her kiss No. 48 bit Yang’s lip.
Yang said she intends to write a book on her project, with photos of her 100 smooches.
By yesterday, 1.1 million people had visited her blog and many had left messages.
Some praised her courage and envied her, while others criticized her, calling her a slut and saying her project was just an excuse to kiss handsome young men.
Other comments that appeared on her blog included: “You could catch AIDS!” “Why don’t you return to Taiwan and kiss Taiwan men?”

Residents have called on the Taipei City Government to reconsider its plan to demolish a four-decades-old pedestrian overpass near Daan Forest Park. The 42-year-old concrete and steel structure that serves as an elevated walkway over the intersection of Heping and Xinsheng roads is to be closed on Tuesday in preparation for demolition slated for completion by the end of the month. However, in recent days some local residents have been protesting the planned destruction of the intersection overpass that is rendered more poetically as “sky bridge” in Chinese. “This bridge carries the community’s collective memory,” said a man surnamed Chuang

NEW DESTINATIONS: Marketing campaigns to attract foreign travelers have to change from the usual promotions about Alishan and Taroko Gorge, the transport minister said The number of international tourists visiting Taiwan is estimated to top 8 million by the end of this year, Minister of Transportation and Communications Chen Shi-kai (陳世凱) said yesterday, adding that the ministry has not changed its goal of attracting 10 million foreign travelers this year. Chen made the remarks at a meeting of the legislature’s Transportation Committee to brief lawmakers about the ministry’s plan to boost foreign visitor arrivals. Last month, Chen told the committee that the nation might attract only 7.5 million tourists from overseas this year and that when the ministry sets next year’s goal, it would not include
