Tomorrow, the Ming Hwa Yuan (明華園) Taiwanese opera company will begin a month-long series of promotional performances for the upcoming 21st Summer Deaflympics in Taipei.
The troupe will perform its classic show, The Legend of the White Snake, at 7pm tomorrow at Liberty Square. The free show will feature Mandarin and English subtitles. Sign language will also be provided for the hearing impaired.

Ming Hwa Yuan director Chen Sheng-fu (陳勝福) said the show combined traditional Taiwanese opera with multimedia technology to tell the ancient story in a modern way, and will be performed in other countries including China, Japan and Russia after tomorrow’s performance.
Tickets will be available at Liberty Square between 11am and 1pm tomorrow.
Aboriginal singers, led by pop star A-Mei (張惠妹), will give a concert next Saturday. A creative organization, the Blue Man Group, will put on a show at the Taipei Arena from Aug. 11 through Aug. 23, before Chinese dance troupe Dynamic Yunnan (雲南映象) showcases its repertoire of traditional and modern dance numbers on Aug. 29 and Aug. 30.

Dressing up as one of the characters in the show and singing a piece of Taiwanese opera with other performers, Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin (郝龍斌) yesterday invited residents to attend the promotional performances and give visitors a warm welcome during the Deaflympics next month.
More than 6,000 hearing impaired athletes and guests will visit Taipei during the sports event.
