The Taipei City Government will hold a flower show from Wednesday at Taipei Arena to promote the 2010 Taipei International Gardening and Horticulture Exposition.
The show will feature more than 100,000 types of flowers and creative floriculture displays, the Department of Economic Development said.
Department Commissioner Chen Hsiung-wen (陳雄文) said the show would demonstrate the importance of Taiwan’s role as one of the world’s major flower producers and exporters.
The show will be open to the public from 1pm to 8pm on Wednesday, from 10am to 8pm from Thursday to Saturday, and from 10am to 6pm on Sunday.
President Ma Ying-jeou (馬英九) is scheduled to attend the opening ceremony and will use the opportunity to promote next year’s expo, the brainchild of the city government when he was mayor.
A total of 41 organizations from 34 countries have already expressed interest in taking part in the expo, Chen said.
The city government plans to grant a NT$2.5 million (US$77,000) subsidy to each country that sends a group to take part at the event to be held from Nov. 6 next year to April 25, 2011.
