Taipei City will tomorrow fully resume its garbage collection operations, including the collection of recyclable and large items.
On Wednesday the city government extended its nighttime garbage collection service in order to handle an expected larger-than-normal volume of household trash accumulated over the Lunar New Year holiday period, the city’s Environmental Protection Bureau said.
As residents usually take out trash at night, the bureau said it would deploy more garbage trucks and extend hours for trash collection.
The schedule for garbage collection services during the Lunar New Year holiday period has been posted on the Web site of each city and county’s Environmental Protection Bureau.
Moreover, the Environmental Protection Administration has set up an additional site at http://ecolife.epa.gov.tw to provide people nationwide with detailed information on garbage collection during the Lunar New Year holiday.
An undersea cable to Penghu County has been severed, the Ministry of Digital Affairs said today, with a Chinese-funded ship suspected of being responsible. EVA Air is prohibiting the use of portable chargers on board all flights starting from Saturday, while China Airlines is advising passengers not to use them, following the lead of South Korean airlines. Current regulations prohibit portable chargers and lithium batteries from check-in luggage and require them to be properly packed in carry-on baggage, EVA Air said. Actor Lee Wei (李威) was released on bail on Monday after being named as a suspect in the death of a woman whose body was found in the meeting place of a Buddhist group in Taipei’s Daan District (大安) last year, prosecutors said.
