The Presidential Office yesterday announced that it would file a slander suit against Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) Legislator Lee Chuan-chiao (李全教) for falsely accusing first lady Wu Shu-jen (吳淑珍) of accepting Sogo Department Store gift coupons. Presidential Office Public Affairs Department Director David Lee (李南陽) said that it had not yet been decided when the lawsuit would be filed. The Presidential Office on Saturday asked Lee Chuan-chiao to apologize within three days for making false accusations against Wu and President Chen Shui-bian (陳水扁). Lee Chuan-chiao had earlier alleged that Wu had accepted coupons worth several million NT dollars as a token of Sogo's appreciation. He also claimed that the president was involved in Chen Che-nan's (陳哲男) embezzlement and bribery case and had accepted political donations from convicted embezzler Liang Po-hsun (梁柏薰).
