A poll released by the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) yesterday shows that more Taiwanese favor independence than unification.
The DPP -- which is pro-independence -- said the survey indicated that support for independence was at an all-time high in Taiwan.
The poll was conducted by the DPP's public survey center.
The results, which were released yesterday, showed that about 50 percent of those surveyed said they support Taiwan's independence, while 29.4 percent are in favor of unification with China.
About 12.6 percent of respondents said that both sides of the Taiwan Strait should maintain the status quo.

The survey was conducted last Wednesday and Friday, and asked 1,033 for their opinions on China's arms build-up and on cross-strait relations.

The Taipei Zoo on Saturday said it would pursue legal action against a man who was filmed climbing over a railing to tease and feed spotted hyenas in their enclosure earlier that day.
