Ma won the mayoral race four years ago by a narrow margin over Chen. Ma's victory was partly attributed to Lee Teng-hui's support, who was then president and KMT chairman.
The retired president, however, has switched his support to Lee Ying-yuan and publicly expressed disappointment over Ma's record.
In April, several TSU members attempted to persuade Annie Lee to run for Taipei mayor, but she rejected the idea.
"We need a better mayor. I am really looking for changes in our city," Annie Lee said at that time.

The entire Alishan Forest Railway line is to reopen for the first time in 15 years on Saturday, with tickets to go on sale at 2pm today.
