New Zealand made it two wins in a row by topping the Philippines 10-6 in the 2013 World Baseball Classic Qualifier at the Sinjhuang Baseball Stadium in New Taipei City last night to earn the right to take on Taiwan in this afternoon’s title game.
The Philippines struck first with a run off New Zealand starter Andrew Marck in the bottom of the second before New Zealand scored the next six runs to take a comfortable 6-1 lead through the top of the fifth.
After allowing a run, New Zealand tacked on four of their own to make it 10-2 before holding off the Philippines to win it by four.
Two people died on Thursday after fans and police clashed outside the Estadio Monumental in Santiago ahead of a game in South America’s Copa Libertadores, Chilean authorities said.
