Adamek beats Arreola
Polish heavyweight Tomasz Adamek overcame Chris Arreola’s punching power and size advantage to win his 10th straight fight, earning a majority decision on Saturday in Ontario, California. Although Adamek (41-1, 27 KOs) was repeatedly staggered by Arreola, who weighed 16kg more than the former light heavyweight, the Pole rallied with flurries of punches that left Arreola’s eyes and face swollen by the final bell. Arreola (28-2), from nearby Riverside, appeared to be close to stopping Adamek in the middle rounds, but hurt his left hand twice. Adamek, who lives in New Jersey, was more aggressive and accurate in the final rounds, winning the fight on two judges’ scorecards and earning a draw on the third.

Kessler claims WBC title
Denmark’s Mikkel Kessler beat Briton Carl Froch on points to claim the WBC super-middleweight world title in Herning, Denmark, on Saturday. Kessler won a bruising encounter despite being cut over the left eye in the ninth round and all three judges had him ahead on their scorecards. It was the first defeat of Froch’s professional career and despite the unanimous decision he rattled Kessler, flooring him in the fifth round only for referee Michael Griffin to rule it a slip. The Dane, cheered on by the noisy home fans, gradually got on top at the 10,000 capacity MCH Messecenter and Froch failed to come up with the knockout that could have saved him.

I’m ready to get to work.” Campbell, 28, compiled a 20-32 record as a Redskins starter.

Lithuania set world record
Lithuania set a world record of 18 successive Test wins after thrashing Serbia 77-5 in their Cup of Nations Division 3A match on Saturday. The sequence beats the record set by the All Blacks of the 1960s, matched by the world champion Springboks of the 1990s. Lithuania captain Mindaugas Misevicius said he was happy with his team’s accomplishment, but added their priority was to qualify for next year’s World Cup finals in New Zealand. “The most important thing is that we got through this game without any injuries,” he was quoted as saying by Belgrade’s B92 Web site. “It is a great achievement to win 18 games in a row, but reaching the 2011 World Cup in New Zealand remains our primary objective.”
