The Minnesota Wild benefited from a goal gifted to it by Pittsburgh, going on to win 2-1 after a shootout and ending the Penguins six-game winning streak in the NHL on Tuesday.
Minnesota’s only goal in regulation time came when Pittsburgh put the ball into its own net.
The Penguins drew level within 10 seconds, but the Wild prevailed in the shootout, with Marek Zidlicky scoring the only goal.

In Raleigh, North Carolina, Sergei Samsonov and Ray Whitney scored three-and-a-half minutes apart in the third period as Carolina rallied past Montreal.
Whitney followed Samsonov’s first goal of the season, jump-starting a Carolina offense that had averaged fewer than two goals in its previous six games.
The Hurricanes moved within a point of Southeast Division leader Washington.

In Glendale, Arizona, Chicago ended a three-game losing streak with a shootout win over Phoenix, condemning the Coyotes to their own three-game skid.
Nikolai Khabibulin made 36 saves, then stopped a further two shots in the shootout for the Blackhawks.
It was the first time Phoenix had gone into overtime this season, in its 17th game.
FLAMES 4, AVALANCHE 1
In Calgary, Alberta, Calgary blitzed Colorado with 51 shots on goal and stopped the Avalanche’s succession of wins at three.
Rene Bourque, Adrian Aucoin, Jarome Iginla and David Moss all scored for the Flames.

In Columbus, Ohio, Edmonton was another team to end a three-game losing streak, proving too efficient for Columbus.
Shawn Horcoff had a goal and two assists to lead seven multiple-point scorers for the Oilers.
Edmonton was outshot 39-19 and went a stretch of nearly 20 minutes without putting a puck on net.
The visitors stayed in it thanks to some superb goaltending and pulled away late in the third period with three goals in as many minutes.
