Police yesterday arrested one of Taiwan's major fugitives suspected of at least two high-profile shootings in Taichung.
Acting on a tip-off, police from the Criminal Investigation Bureau, in Kaohsiung City and Taichung County arrested Wang Tung-he (
Police also seized a handgun and 28 bullets from Wang.
Police believe Wang was behind the shootings at the Kuangsan SOGO department store (
Wang is also a leading suspect in the 1998 shooting at the Golden Paris (金巴黎) disco in Taichung. The shooting left one person dead.
One man turned himself in for the shooting although he said that the shooting was an accident.
Three of Wang's accomplices were arrested in April this year.
Police are now searching for the Uzi submachine gun used in the shootings.
Wang yesterday denied any involvement in the shootings.
The Golden Paris disco was demolished soon after the shooting by the mayor of the city who vowed to tear down all illegal pubs in the city.
Taichung police said that they suspected that the pub shooting stemmed from a revenge dispute connected with the owner of the pub, who was alleged to have underworld connections.
