The tax administration will first request relevant banks and securities firms to offer documents about Soong Chen-yuan's financial dealings over the past seven years, said officials of the administration.
If anything unusual is found, the administration will summon the persons involved -- such as Soong Chen-yuan and the unidentified "elder" that James Soong has called the source of the funds -- to testify, the paper said.
As current tax laws stipulate that probes into tax evasion must be completed within seven years of the event, the administration has decided to speed up the investigation. The administration, however, stressed that the investigation is a matter of taxation, and it has nothing to do with politics.

The Central Weather Administration (CWA) yesterday said there are four weather systems in the western Pacific, with one likely to strengthen into a tropical storm and pose a threat to Taiwan. The nascent tropical storm would be named Usagi and would be the fourth storm in the western Pacific at the moment, along with Typhoon Yinxing and tropical storms Toraji and Manyi, the CWA said. It would be the first time that four tropical cyclones exist simultaneously in November, it added.
