On Nov. 15, a clear bright day, over 3,000 cyclists both old and young came together to participate in the annual bicycle carnival Sun Moon Lake Come! Bikeday Carnival. Among the activities, the most difficult one was the 50 kilometer around the lake challenge race. Liao Wei-cheng from Puli has won first place two years running. He happily said, “I have taken part in this race for the past four years, and I have the advantage of the home field.”
The venue was also host to a classical bicycle festival. The OzoTW bike team specially combined some retro elements with fixie bikes, showing off their simple yet stylish beauty. The Daguanyuan Classical Bike Team scored a coup with their exhibit of Russian military bikes from the World War II period, a British classic ladies’ bicycle and a Japanese colonial era commercial bike, etc. Visitors were fascinated by these antique vehicles.
The most exciting main event was the biggest kid’s push bike race ever. In total, 311 kids took part with all their might. The cuteness of them on their push bikes was unmeasurable. During the race, the children did not seem to care at all about winning. On the other hand, the parents were as restless as ants on a hot pan, in strong contrast with the little ones, bringing a lot of fun to the game.

Floods that killed more than 200 people in eastern Spain last week were caused by a storm that dumped a year’s worth of rainfall in less than 24 hours. The tragedy has raised questions about whether earlier warnings could have prevented so many deaths, while the widespread damage shows how many cities are not adapted to withstand rainfall amplified by climate change. An extremely hot Mediterranean and warmer air temperatures exacerbated a type of storm system becoming more common in the Iberian peninsula due to global warming. Experts said that a building boom in the region in recent decades might have put
