Taiwan Friends of Tibet and Dark Eyes Performance Lab are joining forces in organizing the 2012 Free Tibet Festival, which begins on Feb. 28 and lasts until March 11. They hope to provide a broader perspective on Tibetan culture and everyday life. Hung Hung, the artistic director of Dark Eyes Performance Lab and the person in charge of planning the event, said that a number of Tibetan artists from India and elsewhere with various backgrounds and of all ages are being invited to visit Taiwan in hopes that people in Taiwan will be able to better understand the fate of Tibetans and the values and beliefs of Tibetans living in Taiwan.
The event will include Tibetan films and documentaries, traditional Tibetan music and dance with workshops, in-depth speeches about Tibetan culture, and a rock concert given by young Tibetans. The events will feature renowned Tibetan poet Tenzin Tsundue, folk singer Kelsang Chukie Tethtong, directors Tenzing Sonam and Ritu Sarin, rock band JJI Exile Brothers, and editor-in-chief of Tibet Post Yeshe Choesng, all of whom will be coming to Taiwan especially for the occasion. Performance venues include the Civil Service Department Institute’s Convention Hall, the Guling Street Avant-garde Theater, Cafe Philo, and the SPOT — Taipei Film House. 台灣圖博之友會與黑眼睛跨劇團聯合策畫「2012圖博文化節」,將從二月二十八日起到三月十一日舉行,希望從文化與生活視角,展現一個全方位的圖博世界。策展人黑眼睛跨劇團藝術總監鴻鴻表示,這次從印度及海外各地,邀請不同領域、不同世代的圖博藝術家來台交流,希望讓台灣對於圖博命運與在台藏人所堅持的價值與信念有深入體會。
