"American Airlines told us there is no profit on the route, so they want to terminate it," an EVA spokeswoman said.
American Airlines launched the daily flight between Taipei and San Jose, California, on April 1 to facilitate business travel and the shipment of high-tech products between two technology hubs.
A high number of business executives once travelled between Silicon Valley in San Jose and the Hsinchu Science-Based Industrial Park as Taiwan's high-tech industry is a major supplier to electronics giants in the US. But business has slowed this year.
Taiwan exported US$2.8 billion worth of electronics, information and telecom goods in August, totalling 29.6 percent of Taiwan's export.
